The Brussels constellation room prepared for an in-person workshop

In-person family constellations weekend

See what changes when you set it out in the room

A family constellations workshop across two full days. Bring a difficulty, question or recurring pattern, work with it in front of the group, and give the process the time it needs. Led by Cecilia Altieri and Simon Maebe, a few times a year in Brussels.

Constellations in a nutshell

Five plain answers to start with

What it is

A way of looking at a difficulty in the wider system it belongs to. Instead of only talking about what is happening, you give the important people or elements a place in relation to one another, so the pattern becomes something you can see and work with.

Where it comes from

Constellation work grew from systemic family therapy and several therapeutic traditions in the second half of the twentieth century. The team works systemically and phenomenologically: starting with what is actually there, reading the relationships between the parts, and staying curious about what the picture might mean.

What happens

You begin with a question, difficulty or something you want to change. The people or elements that belong to it are given a place. From there, you look at the relationships, test small movements and follow what changes in the system.

What is asked of you

For a constellation, you will need 3 things: a question or issue you want to explore, a goal you want to work towards, and the relevant facts about your life and family history. You do not need to prepare the whole story; what matters is the information that connects to what you are working on.

Why we constellate

You can understand a pattern very well and still find yourself living it. A constellation lets you work with it as an experience, not only an idea: seeing the relationships, feeling different positions and trying what happens when something changes.

What to expect across the weekend

Across two days, the same group stays together. You represent in other people’s constellations, bring your own if you have booked one, and have time between constellations for each one to settle before the next begins.

Inside a constellation

What happens once the constellation begins

Every constellation is different, but the process has a recognisable shape from the first question to the closing.

Stage 1 of 4

The interview

You begin by talking through what you are bringing. The facilitator helps you find the question or issue you want to explore, the goal you want to work towards, and the relevant facts from your life and family history.

Who is in the room

Who does what in a constellation

There is the person bringing the question, the facilitator, and the representatives who take places in the constellation. Across the weekend, you experience the process from different positions as one constellation gives way to the next.

A constellation set out in the room: one person working on their own question, one holding the process, and the rest standing in for the people the question is about. Everyone in the group takes each of these places across a day.

The person whose question it is. You set the goal in your own words, you place the people who matter, and you decide how far the constellation goes. What is asked of you is to notice what you feel from where you stand.

Holds the direction and the pace, asks what you notice, and offers experiments you can try when you are ready. What the picture means stays yours to decide. Most people meet their facilitator for the first time on the day.

The other participants, standing in for the people in someone else’s question. They report what they feel from inside a position, as sensations, impulses and where their eyes go. You can step out of a role at any moment, and everyone is thanked and released by name at the end.

Questions, answered

Do I have to bring my own question?
No. You can join the full weekend simply to represent in other people’s constellations. If you book a constellation place, you also bring a question, difficulty or recurring pattern of your own to explore.
Do I need to know anything about constellations first?
No. Cecilia and Simon guide every step, and people join with very different levels of familiarity with constellation work. You do not need to study or prepare beforehand.
Is this therapy?
Family constellations can be used as therapy, and they can also be used outside a therapeutic relationship. This workshop is a single piece of constellation work rather than ongoing therapy. If you want continuing therapeutic support around what comes up, you can work with your own therapist or read about therapy with Cecilia .
Is this spiritual?
It can carry spiritual meaning if that is part of how you understand your experience, but you do not need a spiritual framework to take part. We stay close to what can actually be noticed in the constellation: where attention goes, what changes in the body, the impulse to move, and what happens when the picture shifts.
How big is the group?
Up to 20 people. That gives each constellation enough representatives while keeping the group small enough to give each constellation proper time.
How does booking work?
Choose your weekend and whether you want to represent or bring a constellation. After you complete the booking form, the payment link follows by email.
How do I pay?
After completing the booking form, you receive an email with a payment link. Payment is by card or bank transfer.
What if I cannot make it?
Cancel at least 30 days before the weekend for a full refund. After that, the full fee applies.
Is accommodation included?
No. The fee covers the workshop only. There are plenty of hotels around the venue, and we are glad to point you to nearby options if you are travelling to Brussels.
What about food during the day?
Lunch isn't included, so you're free to bring your own or head out. Snacks and drinks are provided throughout the day, and there's a fridge and microwave on site if you'd rather bring something to heat up. We like to eat together when we can.
How do I get there?
Public transport is easiest. See the Location section above for the exact stop, station and directions.
Is there anywhere to eat nearby?
Plenty of supermarkets and places to eat around the venue, so lunch and evenings are easy to sort out for yourself.
